Meet Ted Guzman
Ted is an experienced martial artist and instructor who has dedicated more than two decades to the study, practice, and teaching of martial arts. His journey began in 2003 with American Kenpo Karate under the instruction of Richard Mesquita, where he developed a strong foundation in self-defense, discipline, and martial arts principles.
Driven to expand his skills, Ted transitioned into Mixed Martial Arts and continued his training at Subfighter MMA in Los Angeles, California, under the guidance of Tracy Hess. There, he immersed himself in multiple combat disciplines, including Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, and Wrestling, developing a comprehensive and effective approach to both competition and self-defense.
Throughout his martial arts career, Ted has trained alongside experienced fighters and coaches while refining his technical knowledge and coaching abilities. He also served as an Assistant Instructor for Sektor Jiu-Jitsu, helping students build confidence, discipline, resilience, and practical self-defense skills in a positive and supportive learning environment.
Today, Ted’s mixed martial arts program combines the most effective techniques from American Kenpo Karate, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, and Wrestling. His curriculum goes beyond physical techniques by emphasizing situational awareness, respect, personal responsibility, emotional control, and conflict de-escalation.
Ted believes martial arts should empower individuals both on and off the mat. His mission is to help students of all ages develop confidence, discipline, character, and the skills necessary to protect themselves while maintaining respect for others. Through his passion for teaching and commitment to lifelong learning, Ted continues to inspire students to reach their highest potential in martial arts and in life.
